Cornerstone is a small church which enables us to be family to each other. We're ready to know and be known, to help and be helped, to learn and to assist others in learning. No one is so great that they won't be expected to help clean up after a fellowship meal, and no one is so lowly that they're allowed to escape sharing with the rest how God is working in their life.

Cornerstone Presbyterian Church is a member of the Presbyterian Church of America (PCA).

The Presbyterian Church in America (PCA)

The Presbyterian Church in America has a strong commitment to evangelism, missionary work at home and abroad, and to Christian education. From its inception, the church has determined its purpose to be: faithful to the Scriptures, true to the reformed faith, and obedient to the Great Commission. Organized at a constitutional assembly in December 1973, this church was first known as the National Presbyterian Church but changed its name in 1974 to Presbyterian Church in America (PCA). It separated from the Presbyterian Church in the United States (Southern) in opposition to its long-developing theological liberalism.

The PCA's representative form of church government is rooted in its name -- presbyterian. Local churches are governed by elders (presbyters) elected by the church members. This form of government extends through the regional presbyteries, which facilitate connectionalism, to the national General Assembly, which expresses PCA's connectionalism and the bond of union between/among all the churches.

"Reformed" defines the doctrinal beliefs of the PCA, which holds that the purist expressions of scriptural doctrine are found in the Calvinistic creeds, particularly the Westminster Confession of Faith.

Our Beliefs

We believe that the Bible is the infallible and inerrant Word of God.

We believe that God is a Spirit who is Infinite, Personal and three Persons in One: Father, Son and Holy Spirit.

We believe that God the Father is Sovereign, and is therefore in perfect control of all things.

We believe that Christ, the Son of God, by His life, death and resurrection has become the only true means of salvation for His people.

We believe that the Holy Sprit alone is able to give us a new life in Christ.

We believe that man's proper response to the gospel message is to repent from his sins and to rely upon the Lord Jesus Christ alone for salvation.

We believe that the fruit of man's salvation is a life of grateful obedience to the Word of God.

We believe that it is our personal mission and the mission of the Church to exalt the name of Jesus and to make His salvation known.

We anticipate the personal, glorious coming of Christ to confer upon His people the fullness of their salvation, and grant them eternal life.

Our Pastor

Pastor Don Owsley is the teaching elder of Cornerstone Presbyterian Church.

More About Don

Because Don's father was a career Army man, he, his brothers and sister lived all over the place. Don was born in California, but lived in Germany, Pennsylvania, Texas, Oregon, Korea, Washington, Florida, New Jersey and then finished high school in Whittier, California. It was there he became a Christian when sixteen years old.

Having nowhere else to go, he joined the army when he turned eighteen.  He met his wife, Lois, while stationed in Okinawa; but married in Louisiana.  Since becoming a Christian Don felt the call to full-time ministry, but tried other things first:  Morse code operator, dental therapist, disc jockey, sales clerk, image consultant, interim pastor, school teacher, communications director, and founder-principal-teacher at a private Christian school. He crammed seminary into nine years, during which time he was a youth director and then an elder in a PCA church.

He's been pastoring twelve years while also working full time as a husband and father. Favorite things? Having deep or witty conversations with friends, fishing, reading, watching movies (and critiquing the tar out of them), playing author, landscaping, gardening, remodeling houses, and would enjoy learning how to do woodworking.
